Last weekend, January 16th and 17th, was the annual Cowtown Hamfest in Ft Worth, TX. This Hamfest has been around for years, but featured a brand new venue this year at the Forest Hills Community and Civic Center, in Forest Hills. It is just South of Ft Worth, neat I35W and I20.
Unlike the venue at the Lockheed Martin facility in years past, which was several rooms and hallways together, forming a maze of sorts – the Forest Hills Center was 1 big room. This made it easier to see everything and everyone, I believe. The overall area seemed smaller, but I think the experience was better.
I enjoyed this Hamfest very much. The only other commercial dealer was Main Trading Company. They had tables that took up an entire wall with merchandise. There were also lots of tables with used gear, as normal. I was busy at my own table most of the time, so I didn’t have as much time top browse around as I would have liked, but I didn’t see anything that was a super-fantastic deal. I’m sure there were some, I just probably missed them.
I did pickup a High Sierra Screwdriver antenna with controller and tripod for a good price. I plan to eventually use this in my mobile HF station. I also got a YAesu FT-1DR HT radio that I am going to test on some local Fusion systems. So far, I am underwhelmed, but I want to give it a fair test.
I’ll definitely be returning to this Hamfest next year.
