For a while now, especially since I opened a brick-and-mortar store in the area, I’ve been trying to keep a list of New and Upgrade Ham Radio classes for licensing. The Technician classes are for those folks who want to get their first license. The General classes are for people who have already passed the Technician exam and want to upgrade their license for further privileges on the HF bands. As of the date of this writing, no one in the area is offering an Extra class, although the Kilocycle Club is talking about putting one together. The Hurst Club did a study group for a while, where Generals and Extras would meet on Saturday mornings at 8am and discuss the book/questions/answers amongst themselves. It worked well for a while, but interest started to diminish until they finally cancelled it. But this wasn’t a formal classroom style environment, just a study group.
For whatever class you might be interested in, check with the instructor of that class to find which study guide they will be using. Most of the classes, but not all, use the Gordon West W5YI books. I sell these books on my website for both Technician and General guides. Extra class study guides are also available. But be sure and confirm with your instructor that you need this book before buying it.
For those interested in becoming a new Ham Operator, please check the following links and classes below. This will be a revolving list that I will try to keep updated as much as possible. If you are reading this and you are a club or VE offering classes in your area, but they aren’t listed on this page, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I will be happy to add your classes and information to this list.
