This was my first year to attend the Weatherford Hamfest in Weatherford, TX. I wasn’t very sure what to expect, but I had heard from other Hams in the area that the show was small. I was alright with it being small since it is practically in my backyard. It presented a good advertising opportunity for my store, even if sales weren’t good. However, I am happy to report that the Hamfest was a good business venture for me and I fully intend to go back next year.
I was the only commercial vendor at this show who sold Icom, Alinco, etc. However, Hustler Antennas was also there. Their home base is in the area, and I didn’t realize it at the time, but apparently they normally attend this show. I had the pleasure of meeting them and talking about the possibility of a dealership.
I was also able to pickup a good used Kenwood TS-430S for a very reasonable price. It is dirty and the internal speaker doesn’t work, but other than that, the unit is solid. I am looking forward to trying it on the air.
This show was small but it was good. It is run by very nice people. And for me, I can’t argue with the distance. I’ll be back next year.
